Laurent Grasso
Otto (2018)
The second video of Laurent Grasso in the Digital Exchange screening series by the Pushkin Museum is the work “Otto”. It was created by French artist, laureate of the Marcel Duchamp Award and author of many personal projects, including videos, objects, paintings, installations, in 2018. For filming, Grasso went to the sacred for indigenous communities desert in Australia. The artist was admitted to one of the most closed and sacred spaces of the world, Otto — was the name of his local guide. The artist explored the desert with the help of drones, thermal and hyperspectral cameras.
The video is a mapping of thought reflected simultaneously in religious, scientific and spiritual systems of knowledge. The soaring objects that will accompany you on this journey are materialized spheres of ideas. Their futuristic shape and weightlessness fetch out the impressive beauty of desert rocks and sands, keeping the secrets of the sources of vital energy on Earth.
