“Dreamers” trilogy unites the stories of three heroines, reflecting the personality of the artist Shirin Neshat. Narratives takes place in an indefinite space and time, but we can feel the echo of anxiety and conflict. The heroines explore their dreams - a space of freedom, an emotional and sensual layer of reality that is difficult to explain through words.
The video “Illusions and Mirrors” was filmed in 2013 and for the first time shown at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The heroine, played by Natalie Portman, wanders through a fabulous landscape to meet her counterparts from the past and from the future.
“Roja” researches the alienation and intercultural merger taking place in the mind of the heroine, as well as the artist herself, who moved from Iran to the United States 40 years ago. Also, the heroine of the video “Sarah” remains aloof observing fabulous and mysterious rites in the dream space.
